About me

Hi! I’m Aeirya, two years younger than Google, with a passion for languages and tech. My linguistics journey started early thanks to my uncomon Middle Persian name, and its root in mythology.

Languages

Languages feel like invitiations for exploration. This lifelong fascination has took me from immersing myself in Japanese and French to at times uncovering the nuances of Arabic, Turkish, Chinese, Russian, and more. Throughout the years, I’ve enjoyed diving into more than a dozen of language varieties, such as Gilaki, my local language which I never got to properly speak. My adventures also extend to studying various writings systems, from Cyrillic to Kanji to Hebrew.

Alongside this hobby, I’ve also alwyas been in touch with different programming languages, and even game development tools.

Science & major change

Drawn to both science and engineering, as a student I fell in love with Chemistry Olympiad books. I then entered the best Chemical Engineering program in Iran, before realizing my dreams and biggest passions lie in Computer Science, to which I gradually switched.

I consider myself fortunate to be living in a time of rapid and critical advancements in natural language processing, and hence I feel the responsbility to act properly and accordingly. This is another reason why I am now devoting myself to specilization in computational linguistics.

In my bachelor’s program we learned lots of Maths as well, which I now consider such a blessing and appreciate a lot. I believe that too can help you in unexpected ways.

Personal life

Beyond academics, I enjoy activities like basketball, swimming, both board games and video games, and playing musical instruments. I am also in love with yoga, photography, singing, running, and cooking. Some weekends I devote time to learn about concepts in psychology, neuroscience, cognitive science, nutrition and of course more of linguistics.

I believe in finding a balance between work and personal journey, valuing each experience as an opportunity to live, learn and grow 🌱.
